Please come and join us on Saturday, August 11th for an exciting and fun filled day on Governor's Island. Pack a lunch, grab your kite, Frisbee, badminton racquets, your camera and your bike and meet us at the Battery Maritime Building, located at 10 South Street, at the corner of South and Whitehall Streets near South Ferry. We will meet at 10:45 am in order to catch the 11:00 am ferry to the island.
The ferry and admission to the island is FREE and both are very biker friendly. If you miss us, the ferries run every 30 minutes. Once on the island we will head over to Picnic Point where there are shady trees, picnic tables, hammocks, swings for the kids, and beautiful views of New York Harbor, including the Manhattan's skyline and the Statue of Liberty. There are free trams from Pier 101 where the ferry docks to Picnic Point that run approximately every 20 minutes for those who don't wish to walk or bike there.
The island also has bike rentals for approx. $15 for 2 hours, as well as tandem and large and small quad bikes (which is sort of like a bicycle go cart) for those that do not bike. There are also plenty of food vendors on the island for those who prefer not to bring their own food.
Please note: No alcohol is permitted to be transported to the island but may be purchase from the vendors.
